The Yarn Queen

After returning from a wedding down in St George, where it never rains except on the wedding day.  Happily it was in St George because when it stopped raining about 3 pm it cleared up and the sun came out.  The wedding was saved and it was beautiful.  The Bride of course, was beautiful, the groom was beaming and the sunset was to die for.  Anyway Justin is part of the family, so we had to celebrate with him beside the youngest of the King and Queens was bestman.  So after returning I had mail from the Schacht Fleece Farm on Jael.  She is becoming quite the leader, witch is a good quality but not one that all lambs show.  Icelandic sheep have a strain known as leadersheep, they are more fine boned and taller than other Icelandic sheep.  They do actually lead or gather the other sheep and direct their path.  It has been  very hard work on the farm this summer becasue of the lack of rain.  I am so glad that the shepherdess is such a marvelous tender and cares so deeply for all her flock.  Jael and her friends have been weaned for a few weeks now, and that went well.  The farm tried a new weaning process that seperated the ewes and the lambs and so they didn’t cry for each other during the weaning process, it worked out well.  Jael has worked hard to produce her new fleece.  It is currently between four and five inches in length.  I’m so excited….  And if you are in the Indiana area on the 30th the Schacht Fleece Farm is hosting a shearing, stop in and say hi to Jael and her friends..
