Dyeing Blues Naturally

This was my last dye class and it wasn’t a dissapointment.  Wow we worked with Indigo and Logwood.  Guess what, i got to tye dye a shirt just like the old days of hippydom.  Who would have guessed, the Queen a hippy, not quite but I do remember them.  We did have cameras back then and they were more advanced than a Brownie. Well anyway Indigo is a very strong dye, along with Logwood so you have to be careful not to turn everything blue, blue, blue.  The colors are very rich though and I dipped my beautiful, yellows into the indigo and came out with fabulous greens. Go figure.  Well now i just have to decide what to knit up with  my array of dye stuff.  If you have suggestions send them don’t be shy. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

And I am spinning up some wonderful colors of fiber.  This is 2 oz of a limited edition from Capistrano Fiber Arts Studio handpainted by Lori Lawson.  50% Alpaca/50% Blue Face LeicesterWool.  I picked it up in California a couple years back, before I had a spinning wheel because of the color way.  Did I ever do good work, this is a beauty to spin.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Then to make matters even more interesting i picked up this hand made loom at Three Wishes. The different wood these looms are made of are gorgeous, there was one i liked better, but i went with the size and practicalness. Is that a word? Use up singles and get the weaving bug out of the system….Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Gnome N Clayture travels south

Gnome N Clayture caught a ride with the King and I to St George, land of red rock and 120 temp.  It wasn’t that hot while we were there but it was in the upper 90s and very humid for Utah, soggy in fact.   Yuck! Yucky!  I was down to help the Queen Mother hang stuff on her walls, she has just finished painting and redecorating her condo.  The King and i also did some hiking to see if we were sweat proof and melt proof. We found out, we bearly passed these two tests, took us the rest of the day to recover.  I checked out the knitting, quilting stores and the King made it to the music stores other than that we slept and ate.    Gnome N Clayture had a great reunion and partied his head off.  He found a colony of Gnomes living in the Queen Mothers condo, they had been hybernating in boxes and closets some since the original move others just since the remodel.  They were all very excited to find a shelf to hang out on and cousins to shut the bull with.  Oh the life of Gnome.  I have no idea what a bunch of gnomes chat about for days.  Everytime i got very close they all clamed up grinned those goofy gnome grins they are famous for, and not a peep. Does anyone know what gnomes chat about?  Gnome N Clayture even under threats of being squashed or located to a closet instead of the travel bag only made him grin wider.  Little Brat.  I wonder if they are planning a take over?  We will just have to wait and see.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Upwardly Mobile Gnome

Gnome is off traveling to Seattle and enjoying his new toy a Garmin StreetPilot 550. Gnome is really impressed with this new gadjet and will expect Dave to carry it always when traveling.  We are celebrating the Dukes Graduation from Pharmacy School Washington University, the #1 school in the nation. Impressive…   We are also finding out what the Yarnnation alien is, you know boy or girl alien.  Check out the Duchesses blog.

We fly in Wednesday and introduce Gnome to Maggie and Logan ( who trys to eat Gnome N Clayture how rude). He then took a nap on the wall art and introduced himself to the DukeThen we are all hungry and are doing a grand dinner celebration at The Palasaide on the bay in lovely downtown Seattle.  We forgot to take pictures of the food (sorry) it was very good.  The service was absolutely supurb, just enough not too much attention and a view to write home about.  The Duke and I had stuffed Halibut rolled in a crust, and the King and Duchess had copper head salmon.  First we started with the  Maytag & Pear salad, mummmm.  We laughed at Gnome who fell in the water glass trying to be cool instead he just got wet.  He was going to show you the live trout but i restrained him, Queens don’t really do well jumping in water features to rescue rogue gnome.  The King had a beautiful bananna split, with a fancy name which made me forget what i had.  It will come to me later.
